Drinking Again (official Music Video) - Hayseed Dixie
The first song from the 2021 Hayseed Dixie album, "Shattered Grass."
Video was shot in the Volstead Bar in Warrington, England with a great bunch of local hellraisers. Much beer was spilled. More beer was drunk. Much fun was had.

THINK!
Debussy - Reverie - John Wheeler, upright piano
Переглядів 3,9 тис.3 роки тому
In my worthless opinion, this is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever played. I think it might well be the most purely beautiful piece of music ever written. I spent the better part of a month, off and on and doing other stuff too, coming back to this piece again and again trying to understand it and breathe it without effort or thought. In true form, and in line with my own personal e...
Debussy - Suite Bergamasque complete - John Wheeler, piano
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 роки тому
Do you want to be able to just click your damn computer or phone once and then sit back - without commercial interruptions or distractions - with a glass of wine or Cognac or a nice bottle of Knob Creek Bourbon and listen to all 4 parts of John Wheeler playing the complete Suite Bergamasque of Debussy on an upright piano? You want 16 minutes and 54 seconds in total of a hillbilly playing French...
Debussy - Suite Bergamasque: IV. Passepied - John Wheeler, piano
Переглядів 2 тис.3 роки тому
The 4th and final piece in this suite, this little drunken farmers dance is a technical workout, particularly for the left hand. I take back what I said before about the Menuet - this one is also very challenging to play. It's a drunk French barndance, and I always think about Captain Beefheart's "Floppy Boot Stomp" when I play it. It's a damn celebration of being alive, and with everything goi...
Debussy - Suite Bergamasque: III. Clair de Lune - John Wheeler, piano
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
This piece, the 3rd of 4 from Debussy's Suite Bergamasque, is one of the most well-know solo piano pieces in the world. If Beethoven's "Für Elise" is the "Duelling Banjos" of the classical piano world, then "Clair de Lune" is the "Sweet Home Alabama." Thus, this little snifter of Grand Marnier has been recorded and butchered, schmalzed up and covered in Kirsch syrup and cream and sopped up off ...
Debussy - Suite Bergamasque: II. Menuet - John Wheeler, piano
Переглядів 1,5 тис.3 роки тому
This piece, the Menuet, is part 2 of Claude Debussy's Suite Bergamasque, from the album John Wheeler - "Debussy and Satie: Intimate Upright Series, Vol. 1" This is my favo(u)rite piece on this entire album, and also by far the most technically difficult to play properly, which if what's past is prologue probably means that it will have the least views, earn the least money, and overall be the l...
Debussy - Suite Bergamasque: I. Prelude - John Wheeler, piano
Переглядів 8403 роки тому
Debussy published the 4-part Suite Bergamasque in 1905. Technically and compositionally much more challenging that the Satie pieces I've played on this same album, within these pieces are the harmonic and chordal roots of modal jazz and much progressive rock and art rock. When you hear Bill Evans playing piano on the Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" album, or Rick Wakeman on several Yes albums, or Ka...
Erik Satie - 3 Gymnopedies - John Wheeler, piano

Hayseed Frontman John here again. Since no bands can tour at the moment, here's the 2nd instalment from my solo piano record of French impressionist drinking music, Y'all.: Erik Satie's "3 Gymnopedies." Written around 1888 in Montmartre, Paris, these 3 pieces go some way towards re-writing the previous rules on Western musical harmony. In these 3 pieces, with their emphasis on the 6th and major...

From the 2020 Hayseed Dixie album, "Blast From the Grassed," here is a little love letter of remembrance to all of the time we've spent getting loose in the pubs of England, Scotland, and Wales. Some of our favourite establishments are represented here. Hopefully we can all do this again some day! #Pubs #Drinking #Eurythmics
Erik Satie - 3 Gnossiennes - John Wheeler, piano

Hayseed singer John here. As the band can't currently tour, for reasons WAY beyond our own control, I've spent the past month recording a solo piano album of French impressionist drinking music, Y'all. Since these pieces were meant to be played in bars and cafes for wine and absinthe drinkers, I recorded them on an upright piano instead of a grand - the way the Good Lord intended! Just because ...

From the 2020 Hayseed Dixie album, "Blast From the Grassed." This video is about the Glory of Love (or the lack thereof). It's about coming of age, learning how to do it, about learning how not to do it, learning the futility of expectations, of Being, of everything really. It's about being Tim Carter. And it's about how none of the rest of us are Tim Carter, nor will we ever be. It uses a chee...

Brilliant ! AND no messing with the Wurdz, Kool !! Why do most people leave out the two lines ????? In life in art in everything..... Context is everything !!! "Only takes one itchy trigger, One more widow one less white ni$$er." These lines are referring to the English army's disgraceful habit, during the time of their invasion of Ireland in the latter half of the 20th Century (and probably still today) of calling the Irish people "White Ni$$ers". Many English people in general, have always had an unwarranted superiority complex, thinking themselves a class above the Irish in every way possible. It's a grandiose claim based on nothing but their own self-delusion, inverted self hatred and a very real "inferiority" complex. To rewrite history like this, is to whitewash over this nasty little crime and let these foul-mouth racist slobs walk away from their responsibility and their duty to apologise to the Irish people, who are a guilty of nothing but being alive in their own nation during the time the English arrived to rape & pillage another Race of people. First they attacked and robbed the Scottish, then the Irish, then the rest of the world. Obviously, this is a nasty word, but in THIS context, the "USER" of the word is being criticised, not the Human Being, being insultingly defined with the word. It makes no sense to "Cancel" the Word in this instance, it is doing a dis-service to the Irish people, to Humanity in general, to the Truth, to History and obviously to the "Black" Race, since the English Army, in using the word as an insulting term to the Irish were by definition insulting the Black Race by saying Black people are "N" Words and therefore Black people are lesser beings and the Irish are just lesser white versions. Maybe, we can forgive this crime, but maybe it is NOT time to forget, yet ? So, what need is there, in this instance of leaving out this line in this very great human rights anthem ? The great Muhammed Ali was very happy, during his time in Ireland, he loved the Irish people and identified with them and their struggle against Macho Male-Ego Imperialism. "Freedom - Better Now" ************************* Better far- from all I see- To die fighting to be free What more fitting end could be? Better surely than in some bed Where in broken health I'm led Lingering until I'm dead Better than with prayers and pleas Or in the clutch of some disease Wasting slowly by degrees Better than a heart attack or some dose of drug I lack Let me die by being black Better far that I should go Standing here against the foe Is the sweeter death to know Better than the bloody stain on some highway where I’m lain Torn by flying glass and pane Better calling death to come than to die another dumb, muted victim in the slum Better than of this prison rot if there’s any choice I’ve got Kill me here on the spot Better for my fight to wage Now while my blood boils with rage Less it cool with ancient age Better violent for us to die Than to Uncle Tom and try Making peace just to live a lie Better now that I say my sooth I’m gonna die demanding Truth While I’m still akin to youth Better now than later on Now that fear of death is gone Never mind another dawn. - Muhammad Ali - WBA heavyweight champion (4×) WBC heavyweight champion (2×) The Ring heavyweight champion (3×) Lineal heavyweight champion (3×) NABF heavyweight champion (3×) Olympic light heavyweight champion (gold medal, 1960) AAU national champion (2×) National Golden Gloves champion (2×) Kentucky Golden Gloves champion (6×) International Boxing Hall of Fame[109] Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Century BBC Sports Personality of the Century CSHL Double Helix Medal Honoree Martin Luther King Memorial Award Presidential Citizens Medal Presidential Medal of Freedom[110] Otto Hahn Peace Medal Hollywood Walk of Fame[111] Philadelphia Liberty Medal[112][113] Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year (1974) Associated Press Athlete of the Year (1974) United Press International Athlete of the Year Award (1974) BWAA Fighter of the Year (3×) The Ring Fighter of the Year (6×) The Ring Fight of the Year (6×)

NGL, the line “put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger now he’s dead” hits a bit differently in this particular accent…. I’m a pretty big fan of bluegrass reinterpretations of popular songs from other genres, though, and this is masterfully done. Bravo.
